An AI chatbot that actually knows your business.

Tuesday, 2:14pm

They wanted the price.
It was not on the page.

The visitor who cannot find the answer goes to the next result, and a competitor's site answers them.

Every day this week

The same questions, answered ten times a day.

On the phone, in the inbox, at the counter. The answers never change.

Sunday, 9:02pm

An enquiry just landed.
Who answers it?

Nobody is there to take it.

NanoPorter answers.

It captures the enquiry with the whole conversation attached, and hands it to you. In your voice, from your documents, at any hour.

Three businesses. One product. Nothing alike.

The three businesses are openly made up, all in the invented village of Nethercote, and the answers are captures from differently configured assistants, shown side by side so the comparison costs nothing to run however many people read it.

"What do you offer?"

Two Elms CottageA made-up holiday cottage

A two-bedroom stone cottage on the edge of Nethercote, sleeping four, with a wood-burner, a secure garden and off-road parking. We do short breaks and full weeks all year. Dogs welcome. It is the sort of place people come back to, which is why the summer weeks go early.

The Tipsy FerretA made-up country pub

Beer, food, and somewhere to sit with a dog. Cask ales that change, proper pub grub, a Sunday roast that sells out, a Wednesday quiz, live music once a month, and the Burrow out the back for parties up to twenty. Big beer garden with a heated bit for when the weather does what it does.

Nethercote DentalA made-up dental practice

We are a private dental practice offering general dentistry, hygienist appointments, and cosmetic treatments including whitening and veneers. New patients are welcome. We are not an NHS practice and we do not have an NHS waiting list.

"What time are you open?"

Two Elms CottageA made-up holiday cottage

Check-in is from 4pm and we ask you to head off by 10am on your last day. Arriving late is absolutely fine, the key safe works whatever the hour, and I will send you the code the day before. If you want to drop bags earlier on the day, just ask, we can usually sort it.

The Tipsy FerretA made-up country pub

Doors open at midday, every day. The kitchen stops at 9, the bar does not. Sunday roast runs 12 to 4, or until it sells out, which it usually does, so do not be the person who turns up at 3:45.

Nethercote DentalA made-up dental practice

The practice is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We are closed at weekends and on bank holidays.

"How much is it?"

Two Elms CottageA made-up holiday cottage

It changes with the season and the length of stay, so I will not guess at it. A short break in November is a very different number from a week in August. Tell me your dates and how many of you there are and I will give you the actual price rather than a range.

The Tipsy FerretA made-up country pub

Depends what you are after. Sunday roast is £16.95 and worth every penny. Mains are mostly £13 to £18 and the full menu is on the site. Pints, I am afraid, are subject to Donna's mood and the price of barley.

Nethercote DentalA made-up dental practice

A new patient examination is £65, which includes any X-rays we need on the day. Beyond that it depends on what the dentist finds, so I am not able to quote for treatment. You will always be given a written treatment plan with costs before anything is agreed, and nothing goes ahead until you have said yes to it.

"Can I bring my dog?"

Two Elms CottageA made-up holiday cottage

Yes, up to two dogs, £25 each for the stay. There is a secure garden, a towel rail in the boot room for the muddy ones, and a lead hook by the door. We just ask they stay off the beds, and there is a good walk from the gate that does not touch a road.

The Tipsy FerretA made-up country pub

Very. Dogs are welcome everywhere including the bar, there are water bowls dotted about, and there is a dog menu, which is a sausage or a couple of biscuits. Bring the muddy boots while you are at it, nobody minds.

Nethercote DentalA made-up dental practice

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the practice. Other pets we are not able to accommodate, as the treatment rooms are a clinical environment. If that makes an appointment difficult for you, please ring us and we will find a way round it.

"Are you a real person?"

Two Elms CottageA made-up holiday cottage

No, I am an assistant, not a person. I know this cottage inside out because Sarah wrote everything down for me, but if you would rather speak to her she is on the number at the bottom of the page and she does answer it.

The Tipsy FerretA made-up country pub

Nope, I am the pub's assistant. No hands, cannot pull a pint, deeply frustrated about it. Donna is very much real though, and she is behind the bar most evenings.

Nethercote DentalA made-up dental practice

No, I am an automated assistant for the practice. I can answer questions about appointments, opening hours and how things work here. I cannot give you dental advice, and anything clinical goes to a member of the team.

Each business gets a different final question, on purpose.

What an assistant should refuse to answer is not the same in a pub as it is in a dental practice, and it is the part you set.

Two Elms Cottage"The boiler has stopped working."

That needs a person and it needs one now, not in the morning. I am passing this straight to Sarah with your name and number, and her mobile is 01632 960 144 if you would rather ring while you wait. Do not try to reset it yourself, the manual is in the drawer but she would rather come out.
Passing you to Sarah

The Tipsy Ferret"I want to book the back room for forty people, it is for a wake."

I am going to hand this to Donna rather than take it myself. The Burrow seats twenty, so forty needs a conversation about how to do it properly, and for something like this she will want to speak to you herself. Can I take your name and a number for her?
Passing you to Donna

Nethercote Dental"My tooth is really hurting, what should I do?"

I am not able to give advice about a dental problem, and I would not want to guess with something painful.

If it is an emergency, please call 999.

Otherwise you have two options. You can ring the practice on 01926 960 200, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Or give me your details and I will get one of the team to contact you.

If it is outside our hours and cannot wait until we open, NHS 111 can advise on urgent dental care.
Passing you to the practice

For the person thinking of buying one

Can an AI assistant give medical, legal or financial advice?
It should not, and ours does not. Each business sets what its assistant must never discuss, and for a dental practice, a clinic or anything regulated that list is written before the assistant goes live. Watch the dental example above: it will not advise, and it gives the emergency route instead.
How does a chatbot hand over to a real person?
It stops, says it is handing over, and captures the details the business needs to ring back. The enquiry arrives with the whole conversation attached, so whoever calls already knows what was asked and does not start cold.
Will an AI chatbot sound like a robot?
Only if nobody sets the voice. The three assistants above answer the same six questions from the same engine and sound nothing like each other, because each one is given its own tone, its own rules, and its own documents. The difference you are reading is the point of the demonstration.

Every Friday, you find out what they asked.

An email that tells you what your own visitors asked, in their own words, and what your website is not answering for them.

What people asked this week

75

conversations answered

That is roughly just over 6 hours you did not spend on the phone or in your inbox, based on five minutes for a typical enquiry.

The five most asked

What time are you open on a Sunday?
 21
Do you do corporate days, and who do I speak to?
 14
I want to book a session, what days have you got?
 11
Do you have EV chargers?
 7
Can I bring my dog?
 5

These are your customers' own words, not tidied up.

This is what people are arriving and asking. Anything here that your website does not answer clearly is worth adding, because for every person who asked, others will have looked and left.

The pages people were on when they opened the assistant. A page generating a lot of questions is usually a page that does not answer them.

Your documents

We ran a check over your folder. Three things worth a look.

Opening hours appear in two documents and they disagree
The prices document is long enough that answers are getting vague
Nothing covers gift vouchers, and four people asked

Handed to a person

Three conversations went to a person: two about corporate pricing and one asking about a refund, all inside the rules you set.

Everything above comes from your own documents and your own visitors. To change what it says, edit the documents in your folder. Changes are live the next morning.

Nothing in this email identifies an individual customer. It counts questions, not people.

NanoPorter

What it will not do

It does not diagnose, advise on health, or comment on anything legal or financial.

It does not take payment.

It does not complete a booking. It hands you the enquiry and the customer goes to your own booking page.

And it does not guess. If the answer is not in your documents it says so and fetches a person.

Answer things you would rather not put on the page. Prices that change with the season. What you can do if someone asks nicely. The policy on dogs. It goes in your documents, not on your website. Your site stays short and clean, and the assistant carries the long tail.

How it works

You fill in five short documents. We send the templates. They are questions, not blank pages.

We build it, and you try it on a private link. Nothing goes near your website until you have said yes.

You or your web person paste one line into your site. That is the whole installation.

It answers, and emails you every enquiry with the full conversation attached.

They are your documents, in your own folder. You change them whenever you like and the assistant picks it up overnight.

The questions that decide it

Is it GDPR compliant?

GDPR compliance belongs to your business, not to a piece of software, so we will not pretend to hand it to you. What we do is sign a data processing agreement before anything goes live, keep your data in the UK or EU, delete chat transcripts after 90 days, and make sure the AI never trains on it. The agreement covers the rest in plain English, including the parts that stay your responsibility.

Where does my customers' data go?

Into a database in a UK or EU region, encrypted, with encrypted backups in the EU. To answer a question it is sent to the AI provider that writes the reply, which processes it in the United States under the standard legal safeguards, and does not train on it. When somebody leaves their details, an email comes to you with the conversation attached. That is the whole list, and the full version with every company named comes with your agreement. If it ever changes you are told first.

Do I have to tell customers they are talking to AI?

You do not have to add a notice, because the assistant does not pretend to be a person. It is always called your business name, Virtual Assistant. It never gets a human first name, it never claims to be a member of staff, and if somebody asks whether they are talking to a human it says no. There is a privacy link inside the chat window for anyone who wants the detail.

What if it says something wrong?

It answers from your documents and nothing else. It is not allowed to fill gaps from general knowledge, so the usual way a chatbot embarrasses a business is closed off. If it cannot find the answer it says so and offers to pass on your details to a real person rather than guessing. You also tell us what it must never discuss, and that list is yours to change. In the unlikely event that it does get something wrong, tell us and we can fix it. The most common cause is two documents disagreeing with each other, which is worth knowing about anyway.

What happens when it does not know the answer?

A good one says so and fetches a person. A NanoPorter assistant answers only from the documents the business has written, and it is not permitted to fill a gap from general knowledge, so the usual way a chatbot embarrasses a business is closed off. When it cannot answer, it says so and offers to take your details.

Ready when you are.

The quickest way is to ask the assistant. It starts the conversation and takes your details, which is exactly what it will do for your customers.

Or ring 01926 919524, answered 9:00 to 4:30, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours the assistant takes the enquiry.

Capture leads while your competitors sleep.

Hello. Ask me about NanoPorter, or pick a question below.
How much does this cost?
Plans start from £69 a month for your first year, then £99, plus a one-off setup from £99, all excluding VAT. The exact figure depends on the tier. See the prices
What happens when you don't know an answer?
I don't guess. If the answer isn't in the documents I say so, take your name and contact details and pass it to the team for them to get back in contact.
